About Herbal Medicine
Herbs are where medicine began! Herbal medicine dates back to ancient times and many of the modern medicines used today have their origins in plants, such as aspirin (willow bark), chemotherapy (yew, periwinkle), malaria drugs (cinchona tree) and morphine (poppies). Even today, the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that nearly 80% of the world’s population still use traditional herbal medicine as their main form of medicine.
My name is Vanessa and I have been involved in the study and use of medicinal plants for over 10 years. My journey in natural medicine began when I did a foundation course in London and was lucky enough to explore such special places as the Springhead Trust in Dorset, Chelsea Physic Garden in London and a beautiful lavender farm in the Pyrenees.
I then qualified with an honours degree in western Medical Herbalism which means I undertook a four-year course studying such subjects as pathology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, materia medica, as well as clinical skills gained through many clinic sessions at the University.
I am still constantly learning and enchanted by herbs and their amazing abilities!
