The wonderful world of herbs!

KINDERDIJK

kinderdijkWhile in the Netherlands, I also visited Kinderdijk – the site of 19 lovely windmills.  They were built to stop the Alblasserwaard from flooding and are very old (some dating from 1738) but still operational.  As I cycled along the polders, imagine my amazement (and delight!) at the variety of herbs growing wildly and happily all around this landscape – beautiful meadowsweet, yarrow, linseed, comfrey, nettles (both stinging and white dead), hops, willow, clover …  I hasten to add, the Kinderdijk windmills were, of course, the main attraction!
