health through herbs!

hamamelisThe flowers of the witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) are so beautifully delicate both in appearance and fragrance – they are certainly a welcome sight at this time of year as they are the only things flowering in the garden at the moment. Although the flowers are amazing, it’s the leaves and bark which are used in herbal medicine. They contain tannins, saponins and flavonoids and are used for alleviating varicose veins, haemorrhoids and chilblains. Also welcome as an eye wash when you’ve been at the computer too long!
